BASTARD CROWDING: FACE SCAN
face scan
a concept of Daniel Aschwanden & Conny Zenk in the frame of BASTARD CROWDING
refers to the practice oft he selfie, to the situative procedure of captering ephemeral moments of depicting oneself, just that there is a switch from the media of digital fotografy to the one of digital video. In a performative way the process of imaging is demonstrated by applying a fifteen to twenty minutes long choreography oft he smartphone across the face of a person. The face – scan is being exposed, kind of an extraverted Selfie, as the camera is pointing towards the face and the display is seen from in front of it, deconstructing and fragmenting it and strangely recompleting the face parted by media in that the gadget suddenly belongs to the face as for example a pair of glasses.
The face scan by means of its own ways of observing is questioning the media of fotografy as well as the spectator and his habits of looking. The use of the smart phone despite producing images continuously displays similarities with a microfone, the images generated constantly evoke the comparison with a spooky practice of x-raying oneself.
