Goldberg365: 24 Stunden Stadt-Schamanismus beim Würstelstand 24 hours of „urban shamanism“ at the sausage stall
10. Oktober -02.November 2016, Erdbergstrasse : int. Busbahnhof / U3 Station Erdberg
english version below
24 hours of „urban shamanism“ at the sausage stall
The location of Vienna´s international bus station underneath a highway bridge and close to the U3 subway station Erdberg proves to be an ideal surrounding for Aschwanden´s art experiment. People are arriving, leaving, sitting at the sausage place , waiting, becoming a casual audience at times accomplished by an informed art- public. Those who can´t make it to be physically present have the chance to encounter the performance live on the streaming platform Periscope or watch it there as an ephemeral canned impression with an expiry date of 24 hours.
For a total of 24 hours within 24 days Daniel Aschwanden is going public with his urban performanceproject Goldberg 365 he usually runs nonstop since more then 200 days in a row spontaneously and non unannounced in Vienna´s public space but also in cities like Zürich, Beijing or Chongqing. Where ever he finds himself, he is dedicated to realize a daily performance for one year. The performer plays with the image of an artist – shaman as a detector whose self perception forms the base of a kind of non linear survey sounding out the invisible, not outspoken and setting relations oft he un-defined into contrast with the premises oft he urban surrounding. This endeavor at times can happen discretely but also put into question everyday conventions radically as well.
Goldberg 365 is inspired by real time composer, choreographer and dancer Steve Paxton. Other than Paxton who introduced improvisation as an art form into the theatre – using the Goldbergvarations by Johann Sebastian Bach – Aschwanden is leaving the theatre but takes the variations to accompany him, on several layers. Set-designer Stephanie Rauch created a portable space marker supporting the process of performative „placemaking“. Chinese experimental musician and noise composer Liu Shinyue provocantly celebrating the meeting of contemporary electronic and noise music with classical mainstream did his own version as a variation of an interpretation of pianist Glenn Gould.
